If you are looking for an English tutor, proofreader or subtitler in Luxembourg – you are at the right place!
Hi, my name is Atanaska Ivanova-Massart. I am a Bulgarian lady who shares her time between Bulgaria and England, and who currently resides in Luxembourg.
I hold a MA in English with a national qualification as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language. My studies include English Grammar and Literature, Linguistics, Translation Studies (English and Bulgarian). My qualification as a TEFL teacher dates back from 1998, from the University of Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria. I studied School Psychology, Pedagogical Studies, and Methodology of Teaching English as a Foreign Language for 12 months, with a three-month on-site internship position as an English teacher at the Maths School in Veliko Tarnovo. I followed the path of teaching for three years after university and then I moved to the United Kingdom, where I worked in a couple of administrative jobs for the next couple of years. I have then shuttled back and forth between England and Bulgaria and spent several years in Oxford, England, working in an administrative job at the Oxfordshire County Council. After moving back to Bulgaria in 2006, I worked as part of a family company in Plovdiv, where I spent the next six years as a full-time translator and admin assistant at the Massart Systems Ltd, a small company for translations and IT services. In 2013, I relocated to Luxembourg with my family where I offer part-time English tutoring, translation and proofreading services to my clients. My more recent translation experience in 2017 involves a 5-month internship as a translator with English/Bulgarian at the European Court of Auditors, Luxembourg.
Further education:
After relocating to Luxembourg, I completed a certificate course in Sustainable Development and Social Innovation at the University of Luxembourg. Subsequently, I did a short online course by Otto Scharmer (MIT) based on his Theory U in the area of Change Management for sustainability and decision-making. It has resonated deep with me and I have been interested in these matters ever since.
Other FE courses:
Another online course I followed, related to the sustainability issues of modern-day education, was the Teaching English to Dyslexic Children, by the Leicester University in the UK, which opened a new insight to teaching English and the problems of dyslexia in education. It gave me a good understanding of the dyslexia problem and learning and I am happy that it has broadened my horizons in teaching.
A more recent course related to learning was the Visual Mapping course by Philippe Boukobza. It is a very useful method of learning and analyzing text information by using, not surprisingly, visual mapping.
Last but definitely not least, I also do an online training in Neuro-linguistic programming. I find it excellent for finding the right motivation and working on a more positive note.
Hobbies and interests:
Children’s Illustration – a course by Korky Paul in Oxford, UK. I have been a fan of the arts since childhood and this course has given me a lot of satisfaction and the ability and confidence to express myself and to teach notions through illustration! Indispensable! Thanks, Korky Paul!
