AND THE WINNERS ARE…

What a good way to wrap up the year and plunge into the Christmas holidays by getting a – WELL-EARNED – voucher for a Christmas present!

Ecotrel’s vouchers go to:

1. Age group 10+:

The winner is Lyubena Todorova who has made brilliant progress in her English this year.
Her work is a warning to humankind and is well worth reading, enjoy it and why not consider making one of your New Year Resolutions focus on the environment!
Here is what she says:

“We are not realizing that by polluting her we are triggering our own death, too, because all that pollution ends up in our food and in the water we drink. People are so ungrateful for all that the Earth gives them, and they think that because they live on this planet it becomes theirs…”

A runner-up prize goes to Kalina Massart, who sent us a very factual report of the current water pollution and it is quite startling – this is NOT an apocalyptic scene from a sci-fi movie, not your MAD MAX 10, so WAKE UP – it is Germany now. She also adds:

“We have done so much to negatively impact it that we have been the cause of all the global warming since 1950. Therefore, it is our job to do as best as we can to lessen the pollution. Less pollution would lead to much less climate change/ global warming.”

2. The age group up to 10:

The winner is Zarah Dutta-Nielsen, 8 yrs.
She has sent us a lovely text with illustrations, and I LOVE the recycling picture, page 1! Zarah’s message to us is GO GREEN! I would add GO GREEN OR GET LOST, HUMANKIND! as this seems to be the dangerous road humankind is taking…
What’s worrying Zarah?

“It’s fun to ride water things like, jet skies and boats and other things like that, but it can also sometimes leave gas behind it!! Remember to put rubbish in the right bin because if you don’t, the wrong things will go into the sea and get stuck on dolphins snout and then the dolphin has a high chance of dying !!!!!!!!!”

And to me, she is touching on another humongous topic we have to discuss and shout out about: HUMAN CONSUMPTION! Why do issues like mass tourism, hyper consumption, water pollution and littering the ocean come to my mind???

The runners-up in this age group are:

Zerena Dutta-Nielsen, 7 yrs old, whose cover illustration says it all:

“Put your rubbish in the right bin!!!”

As simple as that!

And she continues:

“Old banana peels can be put to reuse for compost so our nature can grow and the trees can breathe. So don’t cut to many trees down or we might not have any more trees. Also that we can breathe.”

How very pragmatic little girl! She knows already the motto “Reduce-Reuse-Recycle!”
I think she’s well prepared for real life… even though she’s in her early school life. Keep up the good work, Zerena, and don’t let school distract you from real life.

The other runner-up in the Up to 10 age group is Kristina Massart, soon to be 10 yrs old, who shows a keen and observing eye to her environment. Keeping clean is not just important on the individual level, it is part of life as a whole – as it were, if you take care of your own manners, the collective mind is bound to shift as well.
Reminds me of what they say – microcosm is a miniature of macrocosm.

She’s teaching us how to be considerate of others, of non-human beings:

“When you put litter in a forest, if it’s a cigarette, it will take lots of years to devour, and when it does all the contents of it will sink into the ground and do bad things. If you litter, you do bad things to the nature around you… Don’t leave chocolate on the floor, because if a dog found it, and ate it, he dog will die as chocolate is poison to dogs. If you throw away a bad thing, like a cigarette, if you throw it near a tree, the tree would start getting poisoned and produce bad fruit. If you poison animals, then the food they produce will stop being produced and humans would have a bigger chance of death.”

What is your scenario for the future of the environment?

Winners to be announced on 22nd December 2017.

GOOD LUCK!

For all those young, teenage, and young-at-heart students of English, please, read on to find out how you can put your English writing skills to use.

Children often have their own brilliant ideas and perceptions of a problem and can intuitively offer very good solutions. As part of my English teaching activity, I am trying to combine learning and practicing.

I would like to invite all children and teenagers to write a short essay (around 500 words) in English to explain why it is important to keep the environment clean and what we can do to protect it in the future.

The scope can be very broad – you can explain how you see the problems with the environment today – it can be man-made or natural. Hint – by asking as many questions as you can, you can give a good presentation of the problem.

The deadline is 10th December 2017, and you can email the texts to me. Please, contact me on: atanaska_i@yahoo.com

I will create a dedicated virtual corner on my website where all entries will be displayed. Illustrations are more than welcome with the texts.

The first three places will receive a 20-Euro voucher for Amazon and there will be 2 more vouchers worth 15 Euro!
